Thanks to Char and Jan from West Hills Hospital in Reno. They came and talked to us about our local emergency psychiatric hospital. Their website has a neat virtual tour--at the bottom of the page. As they describe it: "Located in Reno, West Hills Hospital is the only private, free-standing acute care psychiatric hospital serving northern Nevada
- Rochelle Summers from the Capitol Quilters holds up a quilt, one of several in their latest quilt donation to the Foster Kids Closet. (Stunning!)This one went out the door with a child a couple hours later. These handmade quilts do more than provide basic warmth. While their lives "in care" may not be settled, our kids can hold their quilt and feel how people care and, because of that, know that life is good and they will be fine.Thank you Capitol Quilters!
- Five CASA trainees graduate and become CASA volunteers! Zita, Bee, Pat, Amber and Janice attended classes, read material and held long discussions. They met the Judge, the CPS Supervisor, a foster parent and CASA volunteers who currently have cases. They observed court hearings. They learned about report writing. They learned about the abuse and neglect of children. They learned about the child welfare system. They bring their caring, their skills and their life experience.
Starting June 4, 2013 through June 22, 2013, The Division of Child and Family Services will be hosting the next Carson City P.R.I.D.E. Training! If you know of folks that may be considering fostering or adopting through the State of Nevada, please have them call 1-888-423-2659 for more information!
- Helping create awareness of child abuse and neglect the daughters of Casa Volunteer Jocelyn Diaz plant pin wheels last Tuesday at the Nevada Legislature. Pinwheels For Prevention. It was Children's Week at the Legislature. Lots of color, fun and important. (The screwdriver helps create a hole in the grass.) Social workers, Casa volunteers, activists and community members turned out.
- Thanks to WORLD DANCE NIGHT, last Friday, for thinking of CASA of CARSON CITY. It was a hoot! Packed crowd. Lots of middle eastern music. Dancers. Bangles!
A great video with the guru of child development. Worth watching
You know it is the first day of spring, but were you aware that it is also “Good Neighbor Day”?
This is day to celebrate volunteerism and good works in commemoration of what would have been Mr. Roger’s 85th birthday this year.
Thank you to members of our CASA community for making our world a better place by being “good neighbors” to abused and neglected children in your communities!
